Anyone that knows me knows what I love more than anything else in the world. In case you don't know me, that one thing is (are?) animals. There is nothing more comforting to me then petting a soft companion animal or some form of wildlife (provided that it wants to be pet). Ethical issues aside, and boy are there many with petting zoos, I visited one in my local mall that was put there for march break. There were goats, porcupines, some sort of marsupial, and cows. The baby goat was my favourite. There isn't really a review that I can give for a petting zoo, as they are mostly all the same. They all smell like barn, all the animals look like they would rather be somewhere else, and they were all absolutely adorable. Obviously, I have mixed feelings towards these sorts of public displays of animals in cages, but I do think that showing children animals and teaching them animal empathy would make this world just a little bit better. Too few children are given this sort of education, and too few children have the opportunity to know that animals have feelings and needs just as we do. If I couldn't get a pet, showing them animals of a farm of through this sort of way would be ideal. Anyways, if you are in Mississauga, check out the petting zoo at South Common Mall until March 17, 2010.
